It was a fascinating and deeply tragic read that offered a raw and painful glimpse into the life of an oft-documented but seldom understood public figure. Being the only child of Elvis was always going to make Lisa Marie's life interesting, to put it mildly. The portrait the late singer offers of her life is one of endless grief and the ways that it shaped everything that followed her father's death. Having additional context offered by Keough only increased the heartache, as the daughter left behind acted as a voice of clarity and hindsight.

It's tough to fully judge the book as an insight into Presley's life since she was never able to finish it before she died in 2023 at the age of 54. Celebrity memoirs are best understood as personal narratives in the face of obsession and cynicism. How do you try to reclaim your own story after decades of other people dictating it?
