Did Suki Waterhouse and Gigi Hadid Fall Out Over Bradley Cooper? Probably Not

Suki Waterhouse used to date Bradley Cooper. There was a 17-year age gap between them. When they broke up, he started dating Irina Shayk, with whom he has a daughter, and eventually Waterhouse shacked up with Robert Pattinson. As I covered in a Recent Do You Remember piece (read here!), Waterhouse told British Vogue that the relationships she had in her 20s often left her feeling as though she was being fetishized by her partners. She didn't name Cooper specifically but when you remember those paparazzi pics of him reading Lolita in the park to her, it's easy to draw the dots. Cooper is now dating Gigi Hadid, another model (he has a type, I suppose), and an ‘insider’ to Life & Style that this has led to a rift between Hadid and Waterhouse.

According this deeply wonky source (this mag ain’t People, let’s put it that way), 'They’ve fallen out and there’s no indication that things will ever be the same for them. Gigi is totally team Bradley and taking this up as her own cause. She isn’t about to let this go.' That story got picked up quickly by the usual SEO recycling spots, like the Daily Mail. It’s an easy story to believe, or at the very least a narrative that feels like a natural extension of Waterhouse’s interview. We know that Cooper’s team aren’t shy about the media and some classic spin. He’s kept his relationship with Hadid pretty private, with none of the hilarious paparazzi posing he did with Waterhouse and Shayk. They’re both parents and on a reasonably even playing field of star power in their respective fields. There are already headlines claiming that Cooper’s ready to pop the question, so having his girlfriend assert that she’s Team Bradley is all part of it, right?

Okay, sure, but I’m about 95% sure this story is bullsh*t. I’ve seen literally no proof that Waterhouse and Hadid were ever friends. They’re both models and probably move around in similar circles but I can’t find any pictures of them together in a friendly way. Suki wasn’t on-stage with Hadid at the Taylor Swift tour or anything. Getty Images has a couple of photos of them together looking very professional at a party held by Stuart Weitzman, but that was way back in 2016. Given that neither Waterhouse nor Hadid have been shy about sharing images of themselves with friends, I’m going to call foul on the claim that they were ever BFFs.

I think this might just be a low-grade tabloid spinning some nonsense to fill out their content quota. If Cooper really wanted his team to go after Waterhouse for what were candid comments about her past that never actually named him, it’d be a Streisand effect moment waiting to happen. Imagine sources going to People to make Waterhouse look bad because she talked about feeling uncomfortable with the way an older man treated her. It’s not beneath some stars (Brad Pitt, I’m always hating on you) but Cooper’s too savvy at this game to slip up in such an amateur manner. He’s not going to be reading Lolita to Gigi any time soon.
