For some unknown reason, I read every single thing that mentions Gwyneth. She's so cool and so interesting to me. No clue why. However, her life does not seem to have much joy. It's beautiful and luxurious, but happy happy? Nope.
There is an infuriating reread of Taffy’s Hiddleston interview by Gen Z where they believe that she is being cruel to him. This seems to go hand in hand with how reading comprehension and media awareness has been flushed down the toilet as all she does in that piece is report exactly what he says and does. It’s so easy to see how the degradation of critical thinking has made it that much easier to push this bullshit wellness agenda on us, the phrase ‘just asking questions’ needs to be countered with ‘have you ever managed to find an answer’, the answers are almost always out there but they are science backed and have nothing to do with where Venus is located at any particular moment. I can’t get on astrology here, I hate it so much, I wish I loved something as much as I hate astrology. The easiest on ramp to the woo woo highway.
In the late mid-late '00s I worked for/with an extremely wealthy woman in Southern California. Anytime an important business decision needed to be made she would wheel a caged dove into the conference room and they would consult. The office was blessed and cleansed with a crystal-placing ceremony when a new tenant moved in downstairs, and Fiji water was the only water allowed in the shared fridge. Gwyneth seems such a distilled product of her environment, but also incredibly smart and saavy, and I have always wondered if the beginnings of GOOP were rooted (just a bit!) in satire. Maybe it's hope more than wonder.
