The Hollywood issue isn't as varied as this anymore. They tend to just do one ensemble photoshoot. There are other ingenues over the '90s 2000s in those issues that are also a weird grab-bag of figures.
I always thought that Zooey had a very Goldie Hawn-esque quality. I agree that it's odd she hasn't been in another sitcom, given the success of New Girl (which has become even more popular on streaming). I read somewhere that she really, really wanted to host an HGTV show about home staging/decor and they refused to give it to her—give Zooey a home show where she can be funny and quirky and talk about having good style! I would watch every ep lol
It's interesting that the two in the lineup that did make lasting names for themsleves, Deschanel and Washington, did so through TV and not films.
I keep mixing up Kate Bosworth and Kate Beckinsale. I see guys listing Bosworth someone they thought was hot, but I couldn't pick her out of a lineup of generic hollywood beauties to save my life.
Kate Bosworth made some highly questionable choices in the late '00's and the '10's, she was in some really bad and thankless movies. But, maybe this is a hot take or something -- I always felt like she gave way more of herself to those roles than they deserved, and she's been the standout in scores of crappy indies. I recall her giving a weirdly lived-in performance as a drug addict pain-in-the-ass in the off-the-rack Statham movie "Homefront". Sadly, in the last few years there's been a downturn, and she's almost exclusively showing up in dodgy actioners, and not even in the fun parts. Anyway, I wouldn't say I'm a Bosworth fan, but she went from early 00's girl-next-door to someone who could be interesting even in the lousiest roles.
Terribly disappointed to find that out about Lohman, though. :(
Bosworth got sooo many magazine covers when she hadn't been acting in lieu of many up and coming actresses of color. The industry is still attached to girlies like her (Sienna Miller is another one) its like they can't think outside their very narrow box.
I thunk the comparison of Deschanel to Parker Posey is apt; both were "hip" girls who matched the zeitgeist of the times (mid 90s clubbing for Parker, early 2000s indie rock revival for Zooey) but who never really broke out of their mold, although Posey arguably did better than Deschanel).
Ugh, did not know about Alison Lohman, but always loved White Oleander.
You're right...only half of these women ring a bell. Do we have today's list? Are they still doing this?

Alison Lohman's best movie was DRAG ME TO HELL. I had no idea she turned MAGA. Had to look it up to believe it. What a dope.

I have zero recollection of Sophia Myles. Joy Bryant I remember as a model but I just checked her IMDb and I'm a little embarrassed haha.

Great idea for a story. Fame is fleeting for most.
Non are house hold names today barely remembered even unlike Marylin Monroe.
